As a Royal Marine Commando H. Collins served in Afghanistan post 9/11 in 2001 on combat operations pushing the Taliban back across the Pakistan border and was part of the invasion of Iraq in 2003 returning for a second tour there in 2004.In 2014 H was back in Afghanistan in Kabul providing security as a civilian contractor team leader to the Japanese Embassy.
